FOLLOW

Kelly A. Cahill, a longtime Crystal Lake resident, devotes most of her practice to employment law and to municipal and local government law. Cahill serves as a municipal attorney for the villages of Algonquin and Deer Park. She also acts as counsel to the planning and zoning boards of the cities of McHenry and Genoa. Her municipal law responsibilities involve:

  • general corporate representation
  • Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act compliance
  • planning and zoning work
  • property maintenance issues and demolition
  • negotiations
  • litigation
  • letters of credit

Because of her knowledge of local governments, Cahill also works with private developers engaged in the municipal development process in cities and villages not represented by Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle. These developers often are interested in:

  • annexations
  • zoning
  • subdivisions of property
  • other land use issues
  • cellular telephone tower placement

In her employment law practice, Cahill represents private and public entities in areas involving compliance with and recordkeeping for state and federal employment laws and regulations. She focuses primarily on:

  • employee discipline and termination including employee separation agreements
  • employee performance reviews
  • employee handbooks
  • Title VII and other discrimination
  • harassment and diversity training
  • job interviewing training
  • representing clients before the Illinois Department of Human Rights and
  • Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
  • Family and Medical Leave Act
  • Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Fair Labor Standards Act
  • employment and separation agreements
  • confidentiality, trade secret and non-compete clauses
  • COBRA compliance

Cahill attended Maine West High School in Des Plaines before graduating with honors from both Valparaiso University and DePaul University College of Law.
