Today, the Illinois Legislature passed Public Act 99-0491, allowing for the disbursement of much needed funds for municipalities. Specifically, hundreds of millions of dollars will be released for areas that are of particular importance for local governments. The Illinois Municipal League has identified the following sources of funding:
- Motor Fuel Tax Payments: $582 million
- Use Tax Payments: $340 million
- 911 call centers: $154 million
- Municipalities with casinos and video gaming: $145 million
The Bill, which brings significant relief to cash-strapped municipalities, was passed unanimously by the Senate and signed by the Governor this afternoon, after having been passed by the House last week.
