Michael J. Smoron practices local government and land use law. Smoron is corporate counsel to such McHenry County villages as Bull Valley, Hebron and Johnsburg. Smoron has also served as special counsel to the village of West Dundee in Kane County. He has served as special counsel to other units of local government in Cook, Lake, Warren and Henry counties in Illinois.
He enjoys working with the professionals who devote their lives to local government and municipal service. Smoron’s work with these clients has involved:
- conventional annexations and development
- cable television regulation
- zoning and planning matters
- eminent domain proceedings
- special service areas
- real estate purchase and sale agreements
- construction and related contracts
- court supervised annexations
- land disconnections
- litigation matters involving land development, zoning, subdivisions and special service areas
- appellate court matters
In addition to his work with units of local government, Smoron has represented other entities and private businesses in the areas of:
- zoning petitions
- site acquisition for transit systems
- real estate and development transactions
- easement litigation
- construction contracts
- enforcement of land contracts
- homeowners associations and covenants
Smoron, a resident of Lakewood, was raised in Inverness and graduated from St. Viator High School in Arlington Heights before attending the University of Notre Dame, where he ran on the track and cross-country teams. He went on to compete in a number of marathons, the fastest of which he completed in 2 hours 36 minutes. He attended law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology, where he was a member of Order of the Coif.

PRIOR EMPLOYMENT
Before Smoron joined Zukowski, Rogers, Flood & McArdle, he practiced law in the Chicago office of Vedder, Price, Kaufmann & Kamholz. He worked on corporate acquisitions, real estate transactions and environmental litigation.
